Wonder Webby
A game about making art with a spider’s web. I’m working on the models, animation and visual polish with my team at QUT.
Gameplay from the current build. I’ll add a playable version when we’ve finished it.
Where the
spider came from
One of my teammates came up with the spider idea for our QAGOMA brief. We were looking at Sandra Selig’s Webs from my garden, and the idea was that you could make art while playing, almost without realising it.
You explore a greenhouse from the spider’s perspective, leaving webs as you go. I pushed for swinging because I thought it would be fun to move through the space that way.

My part
in the team
I made all the models, handled the rigging and procedural animation, and spent a lot of time on how the game looks and feels. My teammates have worked on the spider mechanics and audio. It’s very much a team effort.
This project has made me enjoy making games more again. I especially like getting to spend time on the polish with this team, and I want that care to be visible when someone first opens the game.
Moving
upside down
Getting the spider’s movement to feel good has been the hardest part. We’re designing for a touchscreen, so the controls need to make sense as the spider climbs around and ends up inverted.
It takes some thought to work out what a movement should do from each orientation. We’re still developing the game and working through those details before the playable version goes on this site.
